A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to store, usually so it can recognise you on a later visit. Similar technologies — local storage, tracking pixels, fingerprinting scripts — do much the same job. UK law (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, alongside UK GDPR) says that anything not strictly necessary to deliver what you asked for needs your consent first.
We set no cookies of our own. We do not use Google Analytics or any other analytics product. We run no advertising and no remarketing. We do not use local storage or session storage. We do not fingerprint your device.
We cannot tell who you are when you browse this site, and we do not try to.

We include it because it is the tool that delivers the thing you came to the page for — booking a lesson. We do not receive any tracking data from it, and Microsoft's use of those cookies is governed by the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
We considered loading the calendar only after you press a button, so that no Microsoft cookie is set unless you ask for one. We decided against it: the calendar is the reason most people open that section, and putting a click in front of it would make booking harder for everyone in order to defer a cookie that booking requires anyway. If you would rather not load it at all, the email and WhatsApp routes below reach us just as well.
If you would rather avoid it altogether, you can book by emailing sessions@magpietuition.uk or messaging us on WhatsApp instead.
Our reviews section previously loaded a script from Trustpilot on every page view, even though the live review widget was switched off and nothing was displayed. It was doing nothing except contacting a third party on your behalf, so we removed it.
If we bring the live Trustpilot widget back, this policy will be updated first, and the widget will only load with your consent.
Because we set none, there is nothing here for you to turn off. If you want to manage cookies generally, every major browser lets you block or delete them — look under Settings, then Privacy. Blocking cookies will not stop this site working, though it may stop the embedded booking calendar from functioning.
The member portal at magpietuition.uk/portal is now open. Students, parents and tutors sign in there with a Microsoft account to reach lesson materials and to hand work in.
Signing in sets two strictly necessary cookies. Neither needs your consent, because without them signing in could not work at all, and neither has any tracking or advertising purpose.

Both are marked HttpOnly, so no script on the page can read them; Secure, so they travel only over an encrypted connection; and SameSite=Lax, so they are not sent when another website links into ours. Signing out deletes both immediately and destroys the session on our server at the same time, so the cookie cannot be reused even if it were copied.
Microsoft sets its own cookies on its sign-in pages, because that is where you type your password. Those are governed by the Microsoft Privacy Statement rather than by this policy.
